Recently, DA set it so only users 18 and over can view mature content. I find this funny becuase a majority of DA's users are UNDER 18. LOLZ?

I think it was fine the way they had it, because seriously, people should have enough maturity to view what they can handle, and use their own personal discretion as to what they click or what they don't click. Plus, they had those little (-) MATURE CONTENT thumbnails if you wanted.

But, I really don't have a problem with them doing that at all. It doesn't effect me, minors are supposed to be protected from that stuff anyway, and ontop of that, some of the "artistic nude" that people post I personally don't believe is artistic nude at all.

Not everyone feels this way, but it's just how I feel about the subject. I have alot of respect for artistic nude photography, and I think alot of it is truely beautiful, as I think the human body can be a beautiful thing. But I don't hold respect for the pieces and/or artists that just portray genetalia or erotic poses and themes just to do it, like close up shots of a woman's ass or her legs spread with her vagina in your face, or two women in a shower making out naked with their hands in each other's crotches. I could go to any porn sight and look at that. Okay, I won't pick on all the lesbian photos -- some photos of two women in what can be considered erotic or sexual poses have been done artistically and actually look like art and not porn, but most of them i've seen are not. But this also brings up the funny thing that most non-artistic "artistic nude" (aka porno shots), are mostly of women. DA seems to like to throw out the ones of the men alot. Not that I'm complaining, becuase I don't think I'd want to see those anyway. No more porn plz, I don't care what gender.

I could keep going but I wont. If you read any of that, congrats to you, you just lost 10 IQ points! But what's your view on it? The whole artistic nude thing? What do you think about the artistic nude on this site, etc?

But anyway. Just my little rant on DA, since I don't voice my opinion much here and this wasn't fitting of any other place to rant since its.. well, about DA. I seem to have this slight fear of updating my journal in fear of people getting to know me, I don't know why. Because I'm really not that interesting and I don't want you all to figure that out AHAHA and I'm really really really bad with communication, I'm socially inept and a pretty bad recluse irl sometimes (i feel guilty for that, oops), and I fail at getting back to comments alot. So.. yeah. um. .. yeah. my apologies, forgive me.

I agree with you, it's not really a problem for me, considering I'm already 18, and minors really should be protected from that sorta stuff. However, the DA had a pretty good set up with the [-] thumbnails, and if they had less "porno shots" and weird sexual stuff like that, then there would be less of a problem of cause for more security.
At least if a person really wants to see it, they can get someone older to save the picture of screen shot it for them. XD BEHOLD THE LOOP HOLES OF THE SYSTEM.
I don't really have a problem with porn, but, I completely understand why it's not acceptable here. If you want to post porn, get your own website and do what you want. :3
I don't have a problem with artistic nude either, but you're right, a lot of people take advantage of it. RAMBLE RAMBLE BLAGS.

...I love you deary!!! <3 Come on AIM sometime, I miss our lovely little chats. ^^

I agree with what you've said (especially the double standard happening with female vs. male nudity).

I really hope they decide to make life drawing type nudes not mature content... because I don't remember having to be 18 to take that class. >_>;

I was under the impression that there shouldn't be any porn or intense gore (basically anything that would be rated R-X) on this site... so "mature content" should designate things that are PG-13? Then again, how mature are you at 13? Someone said making the age requirement 16 would be good. I think that's probably a good age (since there really should be a rating between PG-13 and R).

But really... there wouldn't be such a problem if peoples' "artistic nudes" were actually artistic, not porn. >_>

ah well. -_-

ehhh I don't care much for the people who complain about it if only because they can't see animu boobs anymore.

of course, some artists will mature works that don't show anything. and others won't mature it even if there is nudity.

DA's trying to not get in trouble, so I can understand that. the law seems a bit uptight about things like boobs, though. it's not porn and kids aren't that clueless.

Naww, it's okay. I usually have to force myself to answer my jillion messages. So...little...time...XAX

Anyways, onto the opinion part of our show: Yeah, while I respect nude art and whatnot, I mean, you HAVE to, it's been around since time was time. Especially those Greeks...MAN, were they penis happy. But nowadays I find it so easy to take nudity and put the "artistic" excuse on it to create porn on sites that really shouldn't have any. I agree with the fact that it should be only for people who can handle it (aka the mature filter), however it's so easy to override that that once people see these pictures and say stupid things about them, the artist's credibility goes down from there. :( But yeah, I would like to see people give a little more respect toward the genre, both ways (ex. the person's gallery contain not-porn and the commentator peoples stop saying that it is...unless it really is porn, and therefore really shouldn't be up here at ALL :noes:) But who knows.

Ranting is fun sometimes, don't worry :):):)

NO MY IQ POINTS ;o;

Being under 18 myself, it's kind of weird that I don't really care. I mean, there is some mature art that I like, (though it's generally not artistic nude, for that is something I do not have a taste for) but I guess if DeviantART wants to baby me it's for my own protection. Or the protection of other minors less able to say 'From the description, I probably shouldn't look at this.' and walk away. So if I'm keeping some perverted boy in my class away from porn on an art site, I guess it's a win. In some way. Maybe one child, somewhere, was protected by this rule, and that's enough for me.

Yeah there's a huge difference between artistic nude and porn shots. I'm not sure if our admins really check each and every photo if it's appropriate or not but if they do, I think they should know what should be viewed by -18's like me. It's not like these photos are negatively effecting me, but if a photo has crossed the line of being artistic nude, then I'd like to not have access to that image. Though it doesn't make sense, I'm trying to say that artistic nude shouldn't be blocked just because were not old enough, I'd say it's about maturity. (I think we shouldn't be submitting pornographic photographs in the first place but if there's gonna be someone to view those, I don't think it should be -18 users.) Ok artistic nude, not ok porn photos.

I personally feel that 18 is a little too high, but as a number have stated, they feel as a legal side of things, but I feel they would do much better with a filter system, where you can either turn on a thing in your profile to disable MC views on your own our if anything have a filter system, where it will filter out the MC content you don't want to see, but still let you see that you do want to see. Of course have the maximum filter set auto for those who are not members, but allow the members to choose the content they want to see.

Yes, unfortunately I am one of those folk in the states that is against the censorship of the arts (or anything for that matter), as the US is but one of maybe a few places where the older generation tries to restrict what the younger generation view. I'm sorry folks, but why the hell should we censor shit from the youth when they can just as easily get there daily dose of it by just reading the newspaper or watching the evening news on TV. Some of the shit you read about in the paper or see on the news is more hardcore then what many see in art or anywhere else. Besides you figure, this day in age, the younger generation is a lot smarter then adults give them credit for. I mean we live in a digital age and sadly enough is the fact that now matter who hard you try to stop the youth from seeing what you don't want them to see, they find a way to, trust me. I have watched kids as young a 10 beat all them fancy schmancy filter programs, computer cops, and all then shit. It ain't that hard....trust me...
